Facial Skin Care after Chemo

I have always waited until after I was finished with my chemo treatment before I start working on bringing my face back for socializing. If you are like me you will notice that your skin color may look a little ashen and very dull.

Right after my first chemo treatment, I tried every expensive department store skin care products that I could find or used to use on a regular basis while working as a professional career woman, to bring my skin back to looking healthy. I am not going to name the list of products and brands that did not work for me just to be respectful and because they are still very good products. And, because they may work for you.

After trying a lot of different products, I happened to catch an advertisement for Avon ANEW products. The ads talked about rejuvenating and moisturizing your skin. I had never used Avon cosmetics before and didn't have much hope. At the time I thought Avon cosmetics were inexpensive so how could they do wonders when the most expensive products couldn't?

I started using the ANEW Ultimate line. After a few weeks, my skin looked and felt so good that I was able to move down to the Reversalist line. This time around I went straight to the Platinum line. I use the face wash, serum, day cream, night cream and eye cream. I also use several of the ANEW Clinical products. You will love how it feels when you start using these products. You will be able to feel them working. Your skin will start looking so good that you too, will be able to move down one level of product strength.

Skin Care Products for Chemo Patients Part I/III

This blog is meant to help others who have the experience of chemo treatments and the effect it has on their skin.

I personally have been prescribed Chemo treatments on three separate occasions. For a 12 month treatment in 2002, a six month treatment in 2008 and another six month treatment in 2012. Just so you know, I think I have it beat this time! I am waiting to hear about my most recent test results from my doctor.

Each time the treatment prescribed was more harsh than the one before. The practice of medicine is a science and they are constantly working on cancer cures. For my most recent treatment, I went to a wonderful hospital that put together a treatment that was more direct to fighting the type of cancer disease that I had. It was very hard to get thru, but, I made it through to the end.

Each time I have taken chemo my skin has always gone through many changes. I want to share with those who may not have thought to use some of these products to help ease their discomfort. So, if you know someone going through this awful treatment, please be aware that it really does change the way someone looks and feels even though they may still be laughing and look okay to you. Hopefully, you will be able to suggest using one of these products to help them.

PLEASE NOTE: There are many wonderful products available to help a chemo patients' skin, however, these are the products that I tried and found to be effective.

BioSilk Therapy Oil

The first product I want to tell you about is BioSilk. Not only can BioSilk be used as a hair conditioner, it is a perfect body lotion! And, wow!, does it have the most fabulous smell!

BioSilk contains Silk Proteins, Botanical Extracts, Vitamin E and Vitamin B for moisturizing.

BioSilk is the perfect leave in hair conditioner when you first start your chemo treatment and have not lost your hair. It really does help repair the drying damage. I massage this into my scalp when my hair is dry also. Another thing I highly recommend is that you just let your hair dry naturally. If you blow dry of use a hot iron, it will further damage your hair while going through chemo. This does not mean that you can't blow dry or use a hot iron, but, if you are not going out into public, I highly recommend that you just let your hair dry naturally.

BioSilk can be purchased in many stores including Wal-Mart, Target, CVS and K-Mart. I buy the largest container I can find because I go through it so fast. My doctor advised me that it was important to use your body lotion within ten minutes after getting out of the shower for the best absorption.

I happen to use BioSilk even when I am not sick because it makes my skin feel silky smooth! Use sparingly because a little goes a long way. Absorbs in the skin quickly.

Blue Emu Oil with Aloe

Part of the side effects that I experienced during treatment was a peeling rash. This was very dry skin and when it peeled, it would bleed. I needed a deep penetrating medicinal cream. Although I tried many, this was one of my favorites.

Emu oil quickly penetrates the skin to deliver ingredients directly to the source of discomfort, while helping moisturize the skin and reduce inflamation. Blue-Emu Oil is deep penetrating, non greasy, and has no lasting odor. It is great for use on the back, neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, legs, feet and ankles.

I have used all of these products. You will be pleased with any of these selections! Shea Butter is another rich and creamy skin healer. I love Avon's Skin So Soft products and use them all year long. Eucerin and Cetaphil are both highly recommended for severe dry skin.
